Inverclyde Resources

 

Inverclyde’s main heritage centre, it houses the McLean Museum and Art Gallery, the Watt Library, Inverclyde Archives and the Watt Hall in a Grade A listed building designed by Sir Edward Blore, also designer of Buckingham Palace.

 

Cartsburn Publishing enables local history subjects in Inverclyde to reach a wider local audience. We provide the expertise to allow local authors to publish their research.

 

A website developed in partnership between Tourism Inverclyde and Visit Scotland it aims to support business and tourism. The link will take you to their ‘Heritage and History’ menu.

 

Has been celebrating Inverclyde’s heritage for 15 years through volunteer-led community projects. Its arts and heritage services are based at the Dutch Gable House, Greenock.

The Mitchell Library: Glasgow City Archives

 

This menu page has links to all aspects of the Glasgow’s archive service. This can be useful for records created during the period Inverclyde was part of Strathclyde.

The Mitchell Library: Collections

 

Around 500 different collections that can be used for local, social or family history research. Of particular interest are national newspapers and maps.

 

As well as academic records, the archive looks after a wide range of items including the House of Fraser Archive and the Scottish Business Archive.

NLS: Map Images

 

Different types of maps produced over hundreds of years have been digitised. Georeferenced maps allow you to view a modern map side by side with or over an older map to get precise locations.

 

A site for professional archivists, they have a community archive programme to help voluntary groups start or maintain a local archive. They also produce podcasts and YouTube content.

 

Images of vital records, census returns and court documents are among the many resources on this website. A login is needed to purchase and download documents.

 

52 archives participated in this network project to produce an online catalogue of historical resources and digitised records across Scotland.
